Second report on communities of practice
WIDER UPTAKE’s aim is to promote the widespread implementation of water smart symbiotic solutions for wastewater reuse and resource recovery. To this end, WIDER UPTAKE has organised a series of communities of practice (CoPs). A CoP is an organisational principle which seeks to promote learning and knowledge exchange in service of a common objective. The report presents experiences and results from WIDER UPTAKE’s communities of practice. WIDER UPTAKE has organised communities of practice at three levels. At the local level, communities of practice have been organised around each demonstration case. These communities have tended towards either a communal or a pragmatic approach, with both approaches being conducive to realising the objectives in their respective demonstration cases. At the project level, the CoP has allowed members to get acquainted with other water-smart solutions and to share strategies for further promoting water-smart solutions. At the trans-project level, WIDER UPTAKE has organised joint activities (events, publications, project development) with related research projects. The communities of practice have been important in developing and promoting the water-smart solutions demonstrated in WIDER UPTAKE.
