Take the Literary Character to See the Psychologist
In defining values and the personal profile the written word has a special role to play because it gives form to impulses and experiences coming from the subconscious, which are expressed through conflicts at narrative structure level. If these are consciously assimilated, they fulfil everyone’s potential to become the hero of his own existence. The psychoanalytical interpretation of the attitudinal and behavioral elements of a character provides a key to understanding the inner voice that explains a choice or anticipates solutions for a potential existential crises, as a training stage for life. I used this premise in a didactic context, in a creative writing workshop for students in which they did interactive readings, being able to rewrite literary texts to achieve multiple endings. They tackled reading, creative writing, the aesthetic reception of literature, understanding the subliminal elements, the analytical critical reading, and playing with words and literary perspectives, which gave the them the impression that they were competing with the writer to create a fictional world suited to their own universe of expectation.
