MODELING AND SIMULATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGY-BASED MICROGRID
Abstract The integration of renewable energy-based distributed generation has become essential in modern electricity production due to increasing concerns about global warming and pollution. A microgrid is a decentralized energy distribution system that operates in conjunction with the main power grid. It consists of interconnected loads and distributed generators functioning as a unified system. The microgrid concept has been introduced as a viable solution to various challenges faced by electrical grids, including the growing energy demand, the adoption of renewable energy sources, and the need for a stable and reliable power supply. Microgrids are categorized into AC and DC types based on their power supply configuration. This paper presents an in-depth review of microgrid systems, with a particular emphasis on AC microgrids. Furthermore, a small-scale microgrid model is simulated in the MATLAB/Simulink environment, and its performance over a typical day is analyzed.
