Impacts of Macroeconomic Variables on the Profitability of FMCG Firms in India
Abstract: The Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry in India is one of the most dynamic and essential sectors, contributing significantly to the nation’s economy. However, its financial performance is highly sensitive to changes in macroeconomic conditions. This study explores the relationship between key macroeconomic indicators—such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate, inflation, and the financial performance of leading FMCG companies in India. Using a combination of statistical tools and econometric models, the research analyzes data collected over the past decade to examine how these indicators influence variables like revenue, net profit margins, return on equity, and market valuation. The study also identifies sector-specific vulnerabilities and opportunities arising from macroeconomic trends. By understanding these macro-level influences, FMCG firms can adopt more resilient business models and financial planning strategies. The research holds value for policymakers, investors, and corporate decision-makers seeking to align fiscal or investment strategies with macroeconomic realities. It further recommends regular economic scenario analysis for strategic forecasting within the FMCG sector.
