Discovery and Characterization of the Isolated Open Cluster Cl* J045649–662653 in the Background of N11
We present the identification and physical characterization of a previously uncatalogued open star cluster, designated Cl* J045649-662653, located in the background of the N11 region of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). This cluster was identified based on its unusual stellar density and distinct proper motion signature. The central star, Gaia DR3 4662152850562655488, is a K2 II bright giant, accompanied by F-type main-sequence stars and at least one candidate blue straggler. Based on stellar parameters, the estimated age of the cluster is 2.1 ± 0.3 Gyr. The cluster is hypothesized to have formed during the tidal interaction between the LMC and the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) approximately 2 Gyr ago.
