Corporate Social Responsibility in the Chemical Sector: A Case Study of Balaji Amines Ltd., Solapur
Abstract: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has emerged as an essential dimension of strategic management, particularly within sectors characterized by significant environmental and social externalities. This study examines the CSR practices of Balaji Amines Ltd., a leading Indian enterprise operating primarily in the chemical manufacturing sector, with ancillary interests in finance and hospitality. The research aims to evaluate the scope, implementation, and perceived impact of the company’s CSR initiatives. Utilizing a structured questionnaire administered to a sample of 300 respondents, supplemented by secondary data derived from corporate reports spanning the financial years 2019 to 2024, the study adopts a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were analysed using SPSS software, incorporating statistical techniques such as percentage analysis, Chi-square tests, cross-tabulation, and trend analysis. The findings indicate a progressive and compliant CSR framework, with significant investments directed toward healthcare, education, rural development, and environmental sustainability. The study further reveals a statistically significant relationship between stakeholders’ professional backgrounds and their awareness of CSR activities. The research underscores the role of CSR not merely as a legal mandate under Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013, but as a strategic mechanism for fostering stakeholder engagement, enhancing corporate reputation, and contributing to sustainable development. The paper concludes with recommendations for optimizing CSR outreach and impact.
