CANARI Large Ensemble HadGEM3 global coupled climate model
As part of the UK wide CANARI project a large ensemble (40 members) has been developed using the HadGEM3 coupled climate model. The resolution of the model is 25 km in the ocean, 60 km in the atmosphere, which is higher than a typical IPCC model. The simulations were run on ARCHER taking just over 1.5 years to run and using more than 3400 ARCHER kCUwith 30 ‘runners’ and generating over 5 Pb of data. Through collaboration with JASMIN this large volume of data is now being analysed by researchers across the UK. To kick-start the analysis we organised 2 sprints where we collaboratively started the analysis on the historical and future projection model simulations, with over 50 participants in each each sprint.
