DELIVERABLE D2.1 Requirements and use cases specifications

The SPATRA project aims to enhance land transport monitoring and management through development and implementation of two innovative applications based on usage of satellite data. The project commenced on 01.01.2024 and spans over 24 months, with OHB Digital Services as the lead beneficiary. Satellite data has revolutionised data collection across various sectors, providing invaluable benefits to scientific research and enhancing tracking and monitoring capabilities. However, there remainsuntapped potential for using satellite technology in smaller-scale tracking operations such as transport operation. By developing two downstream applications for rail and road transport, the SPATRA project represents a significant step forward in the application of space-based technologies for transport monitoring and management with the potential to influence policy, legislation, and market acceptance in the transport sector. This deliverable D2.1 provides a first step towards the noted project goals. D2.1 focuses on requirements and specifications for two use-cases, road and rail transport. It provides a comprehensive overview of the methodologies and approaches adopted by the project Consortium, along with the key findings and future actions to be conducted to achieve the project objectives. Thedocument provides a comprehensive analysis of the user needs and challenges for the considered usecases in the road and rail transport monitoring and management, based on the inputs from the main stakeholders and end-users Nelt (road transport use-case) and Serbian Railways Infrastructure (rail transport use-case). The deliverable D2.1 document also defines the functional and non-functional requirements, system specifications (both hardware and software), data sources and processing steps, the preliminary system architectures and components, and the interfaces and integration roadmaps for the two use-cases/pilots – road and rail. The deliverable D2.1 aims to establish a clear understanding of the end-user requirements and the system specifications necessary to guide the development of the SPATRA project's road and rail transport monitoring and management solutions based on using the satellite data.
