REVIEW ARTICLE: APPLICATIONS OF BIOLUMINESCENT MATERIALS IN MEDICAL DIAGNOSTICS AND TREATMENT

Bioluminescent materials have emerged as a significant innovation in the field of medical diagnostics andtreatment, offering unique advantages in noninvasive imaging, realtime monitoring, and therapeuticapplications. These materials, which emit light through biochemical reactions, are being harnessed for theirability to improve the sensitivity and accuracy of diagnostic tools. In particular, bioluminescence is used invarious imaging techniques, such as bioluminescence imaging (BLI) and fluorescencebased assays, enabling thedetection of specific biomarkers and cellular activities at the molecular level. This provides an invaluable toolfor early disease detection, monitoring the progression of conditions like cancer, infection, and geneticdisorders. Additionally, bioluminescent materials are being explored for their potential in targeted drug delivery, where light emission can help track the location and effectiveness of treatments in realtime. Furthermore, advances in bioluminescent nanoparticles and engineered biomolecules are paving the way for personalizedmedicine and precision therapeutics. This article highlights the growing potential of bioluminescent materials totransform medical diagnostics and therapeutic strategies, improving both patient outcomes and the efficiency ofhealthcare interventions
