Solar Light as the Axis Mundi: Tejo-Kasiṇa and the Meditative Core of Consciousness
This article examines the notion of “Light” through both scientific and spiritual perspectives, connecting the Sun’s energy with the Buddhist practice of Tejo-kasiṇa (Meditation on Fire). The Sun is described not only as the physical center of the solar system but also as a metaphor for the steadfast mind that becomes the inner center of the universe. In Tejo-kasiṇa, the practitioner does not merely see light but ultimately becomes the state of light itself. The article further discusses the life cycle of the Sun from stellar fusion to its eventual collapse into a black dwarf and interprets it as an inner journey of the mind, moving beyond perception into emptiness, where no thought, light, or observer remains. In conclusion, true light is not external illumination but the transformative force that guides consciousness toward stillness and freedom from self.
