Redshift surveys in the WSU era
ALMA redshift surveys are one of its key science drivers, where the most efficient spectral windows for dusty star-forming galaxies use both the 2 and 3mm window, while z > 5 galaxies are often targeted in the bright ionized carbon and oxygen lines. Using a public tool, we show that the advent of the wideband sensitivity upgrade (WSU) will facilitate such redshift searches, increasing its efficiency by 2.5 times through the increase in bandwidth alone. Broadly, the bandwidth increase benefits the blind line and continuum detections to facilitate cosmic gas and star-formation rate estimates, while the added sensitivity promises to facilitate outflow, kinematic and inter-stellar medium studies in targeted surveys. We stress that both past and future ALMA development - and thus science - will benefit from appropriate referencing of the receivers that are used in studies.
