Tracing the invisible translator: stylistic differences in the Dutch translations of the oeuvre of Swedish author Henning Mankell
This project applies stylometric methods, particularly Burrows' Zeta analysis, to investigate the distinctive stylistic fingerprints of 14 Dutch translators working on Henning Mankell's Swedish novels. Examining word choices, n-grams, and metrics like sentence length across 43 translations, it is demonstrated that translator visibility can be computationally detected in ways that traditional Delta procedures miss, advancing our understanding of how translators shape literary works across linguistic boundaries.
