Is Time Man Made?
Time is treated as a fundamental parameter in virtually every physical theory, yet its ontological status remains unresolved. It appears in equations as an external index, not as a measurable observable, and it resists definition beyond its functional role in tracking change. This paper challenges the necessity of time in quantum mechanics by proposing a recursion-based reformulation of the Schrödinger equation. By replacing the continuous time parameter with a discrete recursive step operator, we demonstrate—through numerical simulation—that quantum evolution proceeds identically, preserving probability density, coherence, and dynamical behaviour. This functional equivalence suggests that time, at least in the context of non-relativistic quantum dynamics, may be conceptually redundant. The results invite a re-examination of time’s assumed fundamentality and open the door to a structurally recursive ontology of physical law.
