Digital Technologies and Public Governance: A Literature Review

Abstract: Digital technology has transformed the dynamics and structure of public administration and governance. This study examines how digital technology has changed the way governments work. To understand this change, this study reviews the extant literature and presents the research work done in the context of digital technology and public administration and governance between 2014 and 2024. The study focused on this recent period because digital technology is constantly evolving and its impact on government is significant. This analysis looked at the theories used in the published papers, the methods employed be the previous researchers, digital technology focused by the researchers and the different perspectives on the relationship between digital technology and public governance. This literature review reveals that there is a lack of consistency in paradigms. The review also identified some methodological biases. Based on the findings, this study suggests areas for future research to address these gaps. This study provides important implications for both theory and practice in public administration and governance. Keywords: Literature Review; Public Governance; Public Administration; Digital Technology, ICT
