SNR simulations for Genesis VT observations

The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of incoming GENESIS signals at VLBI Global Observing System (VGOS) telescopes is a crucial factor influencing the correlation and delay determinations. SNR at the ground stations depend on various factors including the received power flux density (PFD). In traditional VLBI observations of quasars, the incoming radio signals arrive at ground stations with approximately the same power, resulting in uniform PFD for identical telescopes. However, in the case of a VLBI transmitter (VT) onboard an Earth-orbiting satellite, the received signal power varies across different ground stations due to the dynamic geometrical configurations between the satellite and each station. In this study, we carry out simulations over the course of a one-day to compute SNR over different baselines considering different antenna gains for A-band signals of Genesis VT.
