Employee Performance and Challenges at PMPML: A Case Study on HR policies of Pune and Surrounding Areas in Maharashtra
Abstract The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) serves as the backbone of the public transportation system in the Pune Metropolitan Area. The efficiency and reliability of PMPML’s services are directly influenced by its workforce, whose performance is shaped by various challenges. This study critically examines the working conditions, job satisfaction levels, and overall performance of PMPML employees using qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Employees face several difficulties, including long working hours, inadequate wages, insufficient training, and high levels of workplace stress. These factors contribute to reduced job satisfaction and lower productivity, ultimately impacting the efficiency of public transport services. This research assesses the strengths and weaknesses of PMPML’s existing HR policies and their effect on employee motivation and operational effectiveness. By analyzing employee satisfaction and performance indicators, the study identifies gaps in HR strategies and areas that require improvement. Issues such as ineffective grievance redressal mechanisms, limited career growth opportunities, and lack of employee engagement programs further hinder workforce efficiency. Addressing these challenges is essential for enhancing both worker morale and service quality. The study suggests various improvements, including the implementation of better employee training programs, performance-based incentives, and improved work-life balance initiatives. Strengthening HR policies and fostering a positive workplace culture can lead to increased employee motivation and a more efficient transportation system. By implementing these strategic HR measures, PMPML can improve not only employee well-being but also overall service reliability, benefiting both workers and commuters in Pune.
