NEW FRAMEWORK FOR ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION: A PARADIGM SHIFT OF NAAC

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is an independent body associated with the University Grants Commission (UGC) India responsible for the assessment and accreditation of the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). As a result of this development, NAAC has moved from the old accreditation system to the new one due to changes that have occurred in the HEIs. The earlier NAAC accreditation process was more on the scores system having seven parameters and the institutions were rated on a scale state’s scores giving an indication of its overall performance on each criterion. To overcome these shortcomings, the NAAC has come up with a newer version of outcome based accreditation system. These modifications include evaluating institutions based on teaching-learning and evaluation quality, changing to a data validation and evaluation (DVE) system, integrating flexibility in criteria to fit institutional difference, providing development-related information to intuitions, and embracing ICT with AI(Artificial Intelligence). The NAAC new accreditation framework provides the innovative shift towards the implementation of quality cultures in HEIs fostered on various pillars including transparency, accountability and ongoing excellence. The dynamic system makes sure that the ratings given by the NAAC remain up-to-date as they respond to the changing education sector.
