Indians Educators at the 1937 Tokyo Conference of the World Federation of Education Associations

In 1937, Tokyo hosted the 7th World Federation of Education Conference, attended by nearly nine hundred foreign delegates, with fifty participants from the Indian subcontinent (British India). This paper offers an overview of the involvement of a few of the fifty Indian educators at this conference. The paper serves two main purposes. Firstly, it continues the author's work on Anakkara Vadakath Kuttikrishna Menon, one of the Indian delegates. Secondly, and more importantly, it urges researchers in Japanese Studies in the Indian subcontinent to collaborate on examining the writings of these educators, likely composed in the various local languages of India. Unravelling the writings of the educators will help contextualize diplomatic relations through a better understanding of people-to-people diplomacy between pre-Independent India and Modern Japan.
