Sustainable Agriculture Practices in Benue State, Nigeria
This study looks at the financial advantages of sustainable farming techniques in Benue State, Nigeria, with an emphasis on analyzing how these methods affect farmers' income, food security, and livelihoods. The study uses a mixed-methods approach that combines both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis techniques, including a survey of 300 farmers who were randomly selected from fifteen local government areas out of the twenty-three LGSs that made up the state (5 from each of the 3 senatorial districts) and focus group discussions with 30 farmers. Including increased income, enhanced food security, and better lives, the investigation shows that sustainable agricultural methods greatly help Benue State's farmers economically. The study also notes several variables affecting the acceptance of sustainable agriculture solutions: socioeconomic conditions, biophysical factors, resource access, government policy, risk aversion, infrastructure, and market incentives. The results of the study have major policy and practice implications, therefore implying that legislators should encourage the use of sustainable agriculture techniques by means of incentives and infrastructure investment, and that farmers, extension agents, and other interested groups should be taught and trained on the benefits and methods of sustainable agriculture. The research adds to the increasing body of knowledge on sustainable agriculture techniques in Nigeria and emphasizes the need for more studies on the long-term economic advantages of these practices.
