Hypnic Jerks as Transitional Phase-Correction Artifacts_ A Structured Resonance Framework for Motor-Spinal Incoherence During Sleep Onset
Main article This paper introduces a novel interpretation of hypnic jerks—not as stochastic reflexes, but as deterministic coherence artifacts arising from resonance collapse at the boundary of wakefulness and sleep. Drawing from neurophysiology, biophysics, and the CODES framework (Chirality of Dynamic Emergent Systems), it reclassifies hypnic jerks as phase-correction events triggered when the Phase Alignment Score (PAS) crosses a coherence inflection point. We integrate EEG/EMG synchronization, fMRI/DTI mapping, and oscillator-based modeling to show that these events are not random misfires, but structured responses to transitional coherence gaps between cortical inhibition, vestibular-motor feedback, and thalamocortical gating. This work challenges the probabilistic assumptions of traditional neuroscience by introducing a resonance-based ontology of sleep onset and consciousness modulation. It contributes a coherence-first model with implications for neuroscience, AI, sleep medicine, and philosophy of mind.
