Abstract

Recent advancements associated with Industry 4.0 have precipitated substantial changes in the logistics sector. Last-mile delivery systems are essential for minimizing costs, enhancing customer satisfaction, and optimizing delivery durations. In this context, AI-powered autonomous vehicles offer significant potential in critical areas such as increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing safety in logistical operations. Swift progress in artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicle technology has markedly enhanced vehicles’ capacity to observe and adjust to environmental situations. These advancements mitigate safety problems and facilitate the execution of delivery procedures with increased speed, intelligence, and efficiency. Moreover, the ecological advantages of autonomous cars, including the optimization of energy usage and the mitigation of carbon emissions, are crucial for sustainable logistics solutions. Nonetheless, the comprehensive integration of these technologies into logistical processes encounters numerous hurdles, including legal, regulatory, and infrastructural issues. This paper investigates the application of AI-driven autonomous cars in last-mile delivery and analyses the novel solutions these technologies provide to the logistics industry. It highlights advantages including traceability, inventory optimization, and punctual delivery in supply chain management, while examining how autonomous cars might improve speed and precision with cost-effective operations. The study not only delineates the prospects offered by autonomous vehicles but also elucidates the problems and potential solutions related to their implementation.
