READING PROFECIENCY OF GRADE 2 LEARNERS IN SCHOOLS DIVISION OF PAMPANGA: BASIS FOR LITERACY COACHING PROGRAM FOR TEACHERS
This study evaluated the reading proficiency levels of Grade 2 learners and developed a targeted Literacy Coaching Program based on the findings. Using a mixed-methods research design, results revealed that 62% of the learners were at the Frustration Level in reading comprehension. The study identified socio-economic factors—such as parents’ educational attainment, monthly income, and distance from learning centers—as significantly correlated with learners' reading proficiency levels. Learners from low-income households and with less-educated parents exhibited lower reading skills, while proximity to educational resources also influenced performance. In response, the proposed Literacy Coaching Program includes targeted reading interventions, professional development for teachers, and community engagement strategies. The study recommends enhanced resource allocation and improved accessibility to address socio-economic barriers, thereby fostering improved literacy outcomes and promoting inclusive, effective reading instruction aligned with learner needs.
