Traditional Chinese medicine classifies it under 'depression disease' and 'dirty irritability'. The prolonged course of depression leads to unstable moods and, in some cases, life-threatening behaviors. The modern era's intense competition and economic pressures contribute to a rise in depression cases, making it a significant mental health concern affecting approximately 300 million individuals globally. This review explores the multifaceted nature of depression, its impact on human health, and potential avenues for management and treatment.
