Enhanced Traffic Management System for Emergency Vehicles
Traffic congestion and delays at signalized intersections are critical issues that impact urban mobility and emergency response times. To address these challenges, we propose an intelligent traffic management system utilizing IR sensor technology. This system offers a superior alternative to manually operated traffic signals by dynamically adjusting signal timings based on real-time vehicle density. The object detection sensors installed along the traffic signal path continuously monitor road congestion and optimize signal duration accordingly, improving overall traffic flow. A major drawback of conventional traffic systems is the difficulty in providing immediate passage for emergency vehicles, such as ambulances, due to long traffic queues. To overcome this limitation, we integrate an RF transmitter-receiver mechanism that enables automatic signal preemption. When an ambulance approaches an intersection, the system triggers a distinctive blue signal alongside the green light, alerting drivers to yield. This innovative approach minimizes delays for emergency responders, significantly improving response times and potentially saving lives.
