Numerical Investigation of Scour Evolution Around Monopile Structures Using sedInterFoam
This study presents a numerical investigation of scour evolution around monopile structures using the sedInterFoam solver, a three-phase OpenFOAM-based model capable of simulating sediment transport under wave-current interactions. The work focuses on understanding complex flow patterns and sediment behavior near monopiles, which are critical for offshore wind turbine stability. By incorporating advanced rheological models and air-water-sediment dynamics, the simulations capture processes like bed shear stress, entrainment, and deposition. Validated against experimental data from HR Wallingford’s flume facility, the model effectively reproduces scour patterns and morphological changes. The findings highlight the importance of high-resolution CFD tools for accurately predicting scour and improving offshore foundation design.
