Stylistic Analysis of Suicide Notes

This article presents a stylistic analysis of authentic suicide notes obtained from various courts in Greater Mumbai. The study aims to identify stylistic patterns and explore the linguistic choices made by individuals in these notes. To protect individuals’ identities, all notes have been anonymized. A framework grounded in linguistic and stylistic theories was developed and employed to guide the analysis. Each note was manually examined within this framework to identify distinctive stylistic and linguistic features. The findings indicate that individuals experiencing emotional distress often exhibit particular stylistic characteristics. These insights contribute to a more systematic understanding of suicide notes and may inform future research in this area.
