A Rigorous Framework for Validating the Drift Time Model in the Frozen Formalism of Quantum Gravity
This work presents a unified, mathematically rigorous framework for validating the Drift Time model of emergent relational time in canonical quantum gravity. By coupling a Hermitian drift operator as an internal clock, the so-called “Frozen Formalism” of the Wheeler–DeWitt equation is resolved into a well-defined Schrödinger evolution without sacrificing gauge invariance or nonperturbative control. Key contributions: All-order-ħ expansion • Derivation of a systematic WKB recursion for the phase functional, together with Borel resummation and resurgence analysis to incorporate instanton-type contributions. Nonperturbative treatment of inhomogeneous modes • Functional Renormalization Group flow equations for gravity plus drift, truncated to a closed set of beta functions. • Regge discretization on a simplicial lattice and Monte Carlo sampling (Complex-Langevin and Metropolis) to capture backreaction beyond minisuperspace. Rigorous renormalization in the path integral • Heat-kernel expansion and Seeley–DeWitt coefficient computation to identify and subtract ultraviolet divergences. • Dimensional regularization in d=4−ϵd=4-\epsilon and explicit beta functions for gravitational and matter couplings. Anomaly-free gauge fixing • Complete BRST complex with ghosts, antighosts, and Nakanishi–Lautrup fields. • Cohomological proof of the absence of gauge anomalies via Wess–Zumino consistency conditions. This framework ensures consistency and mathematical stringency well beyond traditional approximations. Numerical implementation in cosmological backgrounds and exploration of matter-entanglement effects are outlined as future directions.
