Screening Models for Anti-Aging Compounds in Hair and Scalp Health: A Systematic Review
This systematic review evaluates screening systems and models used to assess the anti-aging potential of botanicals, natural, and pharmaceutical ingredients on hair and scalp health. Following PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive search of PubMed and PubMed Central™ databases was conducted for studies published between 2018 and 2025. Using Synthory.AI for automated synthesis, 13 primary research articles were included, focusing on topics such as hair growth, regeneration, and molecular mechanisms. Key findings highlight the efficacy of compounds like AMSbzs and Red Wine Extract in promoting hair density and activating growth factors, though limitations such as small sample sizes and reliance on preclinical models persist. Future research should emphasize larger populations, human-relevant models, and longitudinal studies to better understand the sustained effects and mechanisms of these interventions. This review underscores the potential for advancing anti-aging strategies for hair and scalp health through refined therapeutic approaches.
