Impact of the BRICS on the global south – new axis of world
This article seeks to understand the development of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) as an alliance of emerging countries and their impact on the reconfiguration of the global economic scenario. Emerging in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, which exposed the vulnerabilities of the Western financial system, the BRICS have emerged as a counterpoint to the hegemonic power of the West, led by the United States and the G7. The strengthening of collaboration among the members of the group has materialized in initiatives such as annual summits, the creation of the New Development Bank and the proposal of a common currency. This study aims to assess the potential of the BRICS to consolidate itself as an antagonist of the dominant global financial system, promoting multipolarity and the redistribution of resources to the Global South, based on the projections presented.
