PARENTS' ADHERENCE TO CHILD IMMUNIZATION OF THE BADJAO COMMUNITY IN BARANGAY TAMBACAN, ILIGAN CITY

Despite increased efforts to expand immunization coverage, progress in reducing zero-dose children remains inadequate, particularly in urban and rural areas such as the Badjao community in Brgy. Tambacan, Iligan City. This qualitative case study aimed to explore adherence to child immunization among Badjao mothers by interviewing 15 parents of children aged 0-5. The findings reveal that adherence is significantly influenced by cultural beliefs, education, and support from healthcare professionals and family. While barriers such as viewing vaccines as treatments for illness, lack of education, and financial constraints persist, most literate and informed parents adhere to immunization schedules. The study highlights a cultural shift from traditional health practices toward the acceptance of modern medical interventions, indicating a growing recognition of the benefits of immunization within the community.Top of Form
