Building Corpora for Low Resource Languages Using Social Networks

Abstract: Corpus creation, for archival and linguistic analysis, can be expedited using social media and computational methods. We present various ways of gathering and sorting corpora from Facebook, discuss legal, privacy, and storage aspects of automatic data collection, and showcase examples of corpora created using these methods. Context: This was a planned presentation at the 3rd ICLDC in Manoa, Hawai'i in spring, 2013. Due to funding, we were unable to present at the time. Uploading now in case it is useful for anyone.
