Commemorative Coins Celebrating the 80th Birthday Anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Her Contributions to Thai Arts and Crafts
In 2012, to commemorate the 80th birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand, the Treasury Department issued two special commemorative coins: a premium large-sized coin and a standard-sized coin. Both coins feature Her Majesty’s official portrait in royal attire and are encircled by 80 floral emblems, symbolizing each year of her life. The reverse side bears the emblem of the royal celebration with inscriptions in Thai. These coins are not only national tributes but also reflect Her Majesty’s significant contributions to Thai handicrafts. Throughout 2012, major exhibitions and promotional efforts showcased the legacy of the SUPPORT Foundation and regional handicraft centers, including Ko Kerd (Bang Sai), Si Buathong, and Phuphan centers. Queen Sirikit’s initiatives in promoting traditional Thai arts such as silk weaving, embroidery, woodcarving, silverwork, and sculpting have provided sustainable livelihoods for local artisans and preserved Thailand’s cultural heritage.
