OPTICAL PARALLEL COMPUTATIONAL ARRAY (OPCA) FOR NANOSECOND END-TO-END IMAGE PROCESSING

This research presents a comprehensive review and development of an Optical Parallel Computational Array(OPCA) chip for nanosecond end-to-end image processing, transmission, and reconstruction. The proliferationof edge devices and data centers has created unprecedented demands for high-speed, energy-efficient imageprocessing systems. Traditional electronic and optoelectronic approaches face fundamental limitations due toelectronic circuit saturation and frequent optical-electrical domain conversions. This paper introduces theOPCA paradigm, which leverages high-quality-factor ring resonators arranged in a parallel array to performoptical neural network computations directly on spatial intensity images. The system demonstrates a responsetime of 6 nanoseconds, an optical bandwidth of 160 nm, and eliminates the need for frequent conversionsbetween optical and electronic domains. Experimental validation includes image convolution operations,MNIST digit classification with 73.5% accuracy, and end-to-end optical image reconstruction. This workestablishes the foundation for next-generation intelligent optical processing systems capable of terahertzbandwidths and massive parallelism
