NFDI4Earth – the National Research Data Infrastructure for the Earth System Sciences Community
The National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) aims to create a sustainable and networked infrastructure for research data and helps to overcome the challenges associated with the storage, management and processing, security, and provision of research data in Germany [1]. It thus plays an important role in promoting open science and the exchange of FAIR research data. NFDI4Earth is a community-driven process - its network comprises 66 partnering institutions from Universities, Research Organisations, Infrastructure Providers, Governmental Insitutions as well as Scientific Associations and Networks. It addresses the digital needs of Earth system science to understand the functioning and interactions within the Earth system and to tackle the most pressing challenges of global change (climate change, natural hazards, pollution, water scarcity, etc.). NFDI4Earth provides researchers with FAIR, coherent, and open access to all relevant ES data, to innovative research data management and data science methods. References: NFDI4Earth Consortium.
