Root Cause Analysis on Research: From Conceptual Development to Dissemination of Results
A phenomenological qualitative study examining the experiences of public school teachers in the Philippines, particularly in the development and dissemination of results, was conducted as part of the research process. However, institutional mechanisms are allowed under DepEd Order No. 16, s. In 2017, many teachers faced difficulties in completing their research projects for various reasons, including research-related issues. Through purposive sampling, 10–15 teachers from public secondary schools in Davao City were studied regarding their lived experiences, perceptions of barriers, and constraining factors that influenced research completion. Major fallouts included perceived teaching loads, a lack of formal research training, limited mentorship, and inadequate resources for conducting research, such as selecting topics for research projects, balancing research with other teaching obligations, and finding suitable platforms to present findings. Conducting research training, enhancing current mentorship programs, and easing the teaching load were among the recommendations made to benefit teachers in their educational endeavors, thereby increasing research productivity. This is aimed at building the research capability of teachers within the educational system to provide better input to the quality of education.
