PAIN MODULATION STRATEGIES IN MUSCULOSKELETAL REHABILITATION: THE POWER OF MANUAL THERAPY
Musculoskeletal injuries are prevalent among athletic populations, particularly those engaged in contact sports. These injuries range from muscle strains and ligament sprains to fractures, each posing a significant risk to an athlete’s body and performance. The nature of these injuries, often caused by various mechanisms of injury such as overuse, direct trauma, or improper technique, requires a comprehensive approach to treatment and rehabilitation. Athletic trainers (ATs) play a pivotal role in managing these injuries, combining therapeutic modalities with targeted rehabilitation exercises to ensure a safe and effective recovery. This integrated approach not only facilitates healing but also aims to restore the athlete’s physical function and performance to pre-injury levels. The use of manual therapy, in particular, has shown promise in modulating pain, improving mobility, and accelerating the rehabilitation process. This abstract discusses the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries in athletes, emphasizing the role of ATs in implementing effective therapeutic strategies to enhance recovery and prevent future injuries
