SORPTION STUDY OF H2SO4ACTIVATED PERIWINKLE SHELL USING SEM AND XRD ANALYSIS
The study focuses on the potential of periwinkle shells as an effective adsorbent for removing heavy metals, particularly copper ions, from industrial wastewater. The Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis suggests that the activated carbon had a favourable porosity, with sharp adsorbent surfaces coated with Cu2+to create smooth surfaces. The results indicate that the activated carbon had a high surface area, which could enhance its adsorption capacity. The X-ray Diffraction (XRD) spectrometry suggests that the peaks in the range 2θ equal to 23.61, 24.1, and 27.5correspond to the existence of carbon in the structure. The results indicate that the activated carbon had a high degree of crystallinity, which could enhance its adsorption capacity. The effect of temperature on the adsorption capacity of the activated carbon was analyzed, and the results showed that the adsorption capacity increased with an increase in temperature. The effect of adsorbent dosage on the adsorption capacity of the activated carbon was analyzed, and the results showed that the adsorption capacity increased with an increase in adsorbent dosage.
