Status and Pedogenetic Distribution of Selected Extractable Micronutrients in Mambilla Plateau-Montane Soils of Nigeria

Mambilla Plateau is widely utilized for agricultural production, not much is knownabout the pedogenic concentration of the soil micronutrients there. The purpose of this studywas to assess the pedogenic concentration and current state of a few selectable micronutrientsin a few soil samples from the Mambilla Plateau in Taraba State, Northeastern Nigeria.Twelve profile pits in all were excavated to serve as sampling units. The profile pits'pedogenetic strata provided samples of soil, which were then gathered, processed, andexamined. The profile pits' sand content ranged from 28.24 to 86.88 %. Total exchangeablebases ranged from low to medium (4.58 to 9.17 cmol kg-1), organic carbon (OC) varied fromlow to high (2.40 to 36.00 g/kg), and soil pH varied from slightly acidic to highly acidic (5.15to 6.32). Cu(2.8–5.3 mg kg-1) was over the critical limit, but available Zn(0.010–0.022 mg kg1), Cu(0.020–0.034 mg kg-1), and Fe(0.21–0.45 mg kg-1) were below it. Sand and OC showeda significantly substantial positive association with available Zn, Cu, and Fe. There would bea need to apply soil amendments to supplement the soil with micronutrients for successfuland profitable crop production
