Vibration Control on a Thin Walled Aerospace Nosecone with Preload

This project explores the vibrational behavior (natural frequencies) of thin-walled aerospace structures, with a focus on optimizing nosecone design. It aims to enhance structural stability and reduce the risk of vibration induced failures, which are critical concerns in aerospace applications. The study begins with a detailed literature review and a careful selection of aerospace-grade materials, including composites and alloys known for their superior structural properties. Key geometrical parameters of the nosecone are optimized to improve performance. Using Design Modeler in ANSYS, a detailed structural model is created, accurately representing all critical geometric features. Modal analysis is conducted in ANSYS Mechanical to evaluate frequency responses and vibrational modes of the design. Results indicate that an appropriately optimized nosecone can significantly reduce undesirable vibrations, thereby enhancing the reliability and longevity of the structure. The project concludes with a declaration of originality and outlines opportunities for future research to further improve structural efficiency and vibration resistance in aerospace components.
