SynErgieKlima - Development of an air-conditioning system with integrated thermal energy storage for synergetic room temperature control

This research concept addresses the often inefficient use of energy in conventional room air conditioning systems, in which the heat extracted from the room is released unused into the environment. An innovative air conditioning system is proposed that actively captures the waste heat from cooling operation and temporarily stores it in an integrated thermal energy storage (TES), preferably based on phase change materials (PCM) such as salt solutions. This stored heat is used with a time delay to heat the same room, significantly reducing the need for external heating energy. The project aims to model such a system theoretically, validate it experimentally and evaluate its ecological and economic potential. It offers numerous starting points for interdisciplinary research in the STEM subjects.
