Role of Tourism in Poverty Alleviation: A Review
Abstract: Tourism is a key driver of economic growth and social development worldwide, particularly in developing countries. It has the potential to generate employment, promote local entrepreneurship, and contribute to infrastructure development, ultimately alleviating poverty. This paper reviews the role of tourism in poverty alleviation, analyzing its economic, social, and environmental impacts. The study examines various models of pro-poor tourism (PPT) and sustainable tourism development while identifying challenges and policy recommendations. The findings suggest that while tourism can significantly contribute to poverty reduction, it requires inclusive policies, capacity-building initiatives, and responsible governance to ensure equitable benefits.
