Integrated Marketing Communication and Consumer Purchase Decisions
Introduction: Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) has emerged as a vital approach for organizations aiming to harmonize their marketing efforts across various channels. The rapid advancements in technology and the growth of digital communication platforms have intensified the need for businesses to adopt cohesive IMC strategies to maintain competitiveness and meet stakeholder expectations. This study investigates the impact of IMC practices on consumer purchase decisions within Tamil Nadu, recognizing the need for effective integration of marketing components such as advertising, direct marketing, public relations, sales promotions, and personal selling. Materials and Methods: This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, combining interviews with brand managers from leading FMCG firms and surveys of 500 consumers from Tamil Nadu. Stratified random sampling was utilized to ensure a representative sample across various demographics and geographic locations. A pilot study was conducted to refine the survey instruments, which were then validated for reliability and content validity. Data analysis involved correlation and regression techniques to explore the relationships between IMC components and consumer purchase decisions. Results: The study found that advertising and direct marketing significantly positively impact consumer purchase decisions, with correlations of r = 0.700 and r = 0.600, respectively. Technology also showed a positive influence (r = 0.220), while sales promotions had a negative effect (r = -0.200). Public relations and personal selling did not exhibit significant effects. The regression analysis confirmed that the model, with an R² value of 0.611, effectively explains the variability in consumer purchase decisions, highlighting the substantial roles of advertising, direct marketing, and technology. Conclusion: The research underscores the importance of integrating advertising, direct marketing, and technology within IMC strategies to enhance consumer purchase decisions. While sales promotions demonstrated a negative impact, other IMC components proved crucial in influencing consumer behaviour. The findings provide actionable insights for businesses to optimize their marketing strategies by focusing on the most impactful IMC elements. Originality: This study contributes to the understanding of IMC's impact on consumer purchase decisions by providing a detailed analysis of various IMC components within the context of Tamil Nadu. The integration of qualitative and quantitative methods offers a comprehensive view of how different marketing strategies interact to affect consumer behaviour, filling a gap in the existing literature on IMC's effectiveness in emerging markets
