Neuromuscular Blocking Agents
Neuromuscular Blocking Agents (NMBAs) are essential in anesthesia for muscle relaxation during surgical procedures. They are classified into non-depolarizing and depolarizing agents, with depolarizing agents activating acetylcholine receptors and non-depolarizing agents blocking them. NMBAs are commonly administered intravenous, intramuscular, or intraosseous, and their dosage depends on patient characteristics. Interprofessional collaboration is crucial for optimal NMBA management.Novel drug delivery systems, such as transdermal patches for Rivastigmine, offer faster onset and non-invasive methods for treating Alzheimer’s. These systems also offer nasal administration, inhalational delivery, intra-articular delivery, mucosal buccal delivery, subcutaneous administration, microdosing, and targeted delivery systems using nanoparticles or liposomes. These systems improve patient comfort, reduce side effects, and speed up drug onset. Applications include nanoparticles for drug solubility and bioavailability, hydrogels for wound healing and tissue engineering, colloidal carriers for targeted therapy, 3D printing for personalized formulations, phytosomes for improved bioavailability, and injectable in situ- gelling systems for sustained.
