Design, Analytical Evaluation, and Structural Simulation of a Single Plate Clutch Using Composite Materials
Abstract In modern automotive systems, the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of clutch systems have become critical performance factors. This research paper presents a comprehensive investigation into the design, analytical evaluation, and structural simulation of a single plate friction clutch. Traditional clutch materials such as asbestos and cast iron, although historically prevalent, are associated with limitations such as high density, thermal inefficiency, and health hazards. This study explores the application of advanced composite materials specifically Kevlar, cermet, ceramic, and sintered metals for friction linings to improve performance metrics such as torque capacity, structural rigidity, deformation behavior, and wear resistance. The methodology integrates theoretical calculations of torque transmission, factor of safety, and spring dynamics with solid modeling using CATIA and SolidWorks.
