Introduction to Digital Preservation

These slides introducing digital preservation (also long-term preservation) were presented in the workshop on Preservation of Life Science Data which was organized by NFDI4Microbiota. They contain exemplary cases of data loss, define digital preservation (with references to various digital preservation initatives), introduce the "Object Levels of Preservation" model, relevant metadata standards, preservation policies and certification in the context of digital preservation.
