Investigating the Antibacterial Potential of Nitrated Quinazolinones: Synthesis and Spectroscopic Characterization
Quinazolinones are important heterocyclic compounds with significant medical applications. Their derivatives are essential in developing drugs for antibacterial, analgesic, antimalarial, anticancer, antihistaminic, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and anti-tubercular uses. This study focused on quinazolin4ones, the most biologically active derivatives, to enhance their antibacterial potential. We aimed to increase the active sites by nitrating quinazolinones and then reducing them to amino derivatives. Various nitration methods were explored, with HNO3/H2SO4 yielding the best results at low temperatures. Spectroscopic studies (FTIR and UV) confirmed the successful synthesis of amino derivatives, indicating a potential increase in biological activity.
