ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE UK IT INDUSTRY: APPLICATIONS, CASE STUDIES, AND OUTLOOK

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the UK’s information technology (IT) industry by drivinginnovation, enhancing operational efficiency, and enabling new forms of automation. This paper offers acomprehensive examination of AI adoption across four core domains of the UK IT sector: cybersecurity, softwaredevelopment, IT operations (AIOps), and data analytics. Drawing on government reports, industry case studies, and recent surveys, we trace how UK firms are deploying AI for threat detection, code generation, autonomousinfrastructure, and intelligent forecasting. Notably, by late 2024, around 15% of UK businesses—30% amonglarge enterprises—had integrated some form of AI into their operations. At the same time, the UK government’sregulatory response emphasizes a “pro-innovation” stance, while generative AI and ethical challenges continue toreshape the policy landscape. We conclude by discussing the future trajectory of AI in UK IT, highlighting theimportance of public trust, workforce readiness, and international competitiveness.
