EXPERIENCE IN THE TREATMENT OF LARGE AND GIANT POSTOPERATIVE VENTRAL HERNIAS OF THE ANTERIOR ABDOMINAL WALL

The literature sources dedicated to the treatment of postoperative ventral hernias of the anterior abdominal wall indicate that the outcomes of treating this pathology remain unsatisfactory. The sample consisted of postoperative ventral hernias are among the late complications in abdominal surgery. According to literature data, 5-10% of all laparotomies are complicated by the development of postoperative ventral hernias. In urgent surgery, the frequency of hernia formation increases from 28-32% (1-4,6-8,17). The increase in the number and volume of surgical interventions on the abdominal organs has led to an increase in the number of postoperative ventral hernias, a significant proportion of which are classified as large and giant (5,9-12,18-25). The variety of proposed hernioplasty methods did not affect the results of treatment of large and giant ventral hernias. The recurrence rate when using traditional methods ranges from 10-15% to 36-50% (2,10,13-16,26,27).
