The role of quality assurance for improving hospital management in Somalia
Quality assurance is paramount in enhancing hospital management via the delivery of quality healthcare, patient safety, and operational efficiency. This study examines the role of quality assurance in enhancing hospital management in the Somali context with focus on principal areas such as staff training, resource allocation, patient care policy, and health technology. Using a mixed-methods design, data was collected through interviews and surveys among healthcare workers, hospital managers, and patients at sampled hospitals in Somalia. Findings indicate that while quality assurance practices have been implemented in certain hospitals, such constraints as substandard infrastructure, limited training programs, and inefficient monitoring mechanisms work against their functionality. Resource shortages and inconsistent enforcement of policies are also responsible for disparities in the quality of care. The study highlights the need for formal quality assurance programs, continuous professional development of healthcare workers, and the application of technology to enhance hospital management. The study recommends the adoption of standardized quality assurance models, increased investment in healthcare infrastructure, and stronger regulatory enforcement to ensure compliance with best practices. These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, hospital managers, and healthcare practitioners seeking to improve hospital management and patient care in Somalia.
