THE EFFECTS OF PLAYING TABLETOP ROLEPLAYING GAMES IN THE CLASSROOM ON THE ACADEMIC LITERACY OF SECONDARY STUDENTS
This literature review examines how tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) can foster academic literacy in secondary English Language Arts (ELA) classrooms. Synthesizing research across reading comprehension, vocabulary development, writing fluency, and student engagement, it explores how collaborative storytelling can serve as a powerful scaffold for literacy growth. The review also highlights structural barriers to TTRPG implementation and suggests strategies for integrating games into traditional educational settings. By connecting theory to practice, this study argues that TTRPGs offer untapped potential for reimagining student-centered learning.
